My name is Jan Hošek
|
I was born in Prague many years ago. I was interesting in chemistry and physics since my study at the basic school. I studied at the Department of Precision Mechanics and Optics of the Facoulty of Mechanical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague after secondary school. I disposed my final thesis for Institute of Thermomechanics of Czech Academy of Sciences "Optical Measurement of Vapour Condensation in the Shock Tube". I finished my study with honours. I attended Facoulty student inventive work competition in the third years of magister and doctoral study and I was awarded with the third and the first place. I am a PhD student at the Czech Technical University and I am part-time employed in the Institute of Thermomechanics of Czech Academy of Science now. I passed rigoror exam with honour in 2001 and doctoral degree exam is planning in 2003.
My interest in natural sciences was focused on astromony and mineralogy. I attended astromnomical cours at the Prague´s observatory and I passed all exams. Then I worked as guide in the Prague´s observatory from 1991 till 1998. I began interesting in mineralogy at the secondary school. I have collect a large collection since that time. I like travel to all possible interesting places in the world and I participate in geology expeditions.( vulcans, caves, Alpes, Morocco)
I take a study stay at the University of Applied Sciences in Emden in Germany for half year. We developed a new technique to measure gas/vapour property inside laser induced cavitation bubble there. Results of my work are summarized in article "Vapour Density Measurements inside Laser induced Cavitation Bubbles" which I presented at the conference „Laser-Assisted Microtechnology" (LAM-2000) in St. Petersburg. I won photography competition gived by Niedersachsen Ministry of Education at the exhibition EXPO 2000.
I participate on article "Aerodynamic and mass transfer characteristics of an annular bistable impinging jet with a fluidic flip-flop control" published in the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer Vol. 46 No.7.
I became a happy fater at the end of 2002.

Expedition Slovakia 99 :
Expedition passed off in 3.-8.8.1999.
The goal was to visit some interesting localits again and to verify new localities.
Visited localities: Bánská Šťiavnica - Hodrůš
Bánská Šťiavnica - quarry Šobov
Bánská Šťiavnica - piles of Maxmilián mine
Špania dolina - Piesky
Povrazník
Ľubietová
Dobšiná
Locality´s results:
Bánská Šťiavnica - Hodrůš - historicaly important centre of ore mining.
There is a mine activity in a few of drifts in this time. But there is not possible to go. There are nice samples of old historical mine buildings. There are only a few piles where is possible to find somethig interesting across the road close to the entrance of the drift Lill. (If somebody of you to find there and brink my lost hammer, please send me a message to address: hosek@it.cas.cz. Thank you. We found nothing interesting there.
Bánská Šťiavnica - quarry Šobov - quarry over Bánská Štiavnica.
0,5 hour of collection: There are common crystals of rock-crystal to 10 cm in the upper level. But a lot of these are demaged. You have to remember crystals larger than 7 cm you have to apply to Slovak Republic.
Bánská Šťiavnica - piles of Maxmilián mine - SE part of Bánská Šťiavnica.
1 hour of collection: old scrubby piles. No intensive collection was observed. But we found interesting peaces of quartz agragats to 2 cm, xx of pyrite, chalkopyrite and baryte cristals to 3 cm there.
Špania dolina - Piesky - the piles in the valley over the village Piesky.
There you can go across the hill or through the hill by old drift. There are typical depositions of malachite, azurite, pseudomalachite, and limonite. These drifts are very favourable locality.
Povrazník - local exposure on S from village.
5 hours of collecting: The exposure 15x20 m was not so succesful like the last visit. The largest pieces of wood opal was not greater than 5 cm and beautiful red opals we found no piece. But we had overeat with mushrooms.
Ľubietová - the piles in the valley over the village.
2 hours of collecting: The old piles, but there are visible some mineralogy activity. There is still possible to find nice pieces of libethenite, malachite or pseudomalachite. We found the largest dipyramide of libetenite 3 mm.
Dobšiná - chrysotil quarry over the town.
2 hours of collecting: the old unfunction asbestos quarry is growing over slowly. There is a lot of chrysotil, but compact layer are exhousted and to find a good don´t decay piece is problem. Close to the querry edge there is possible to find andradits with crystals to 2 mm.
Roháče - The last day we had a trip across the ridge of Roháče in the Tatras.
